Have you considered outsourcing components of your maintenance program? EASA completed a study in 2014 to identify opportunities and trends relating to the outsourcing of maintenance tasks. Overall, it was hypothesized that outsourcing maintenance will continue to trend upwards.
Practices such as electrical motor service and repair, switchgear service and repair, and energy audits were primarily outsourced, while root cause failure analysis, equipment alignment, and automation programming were more commonly completed in house.
"When asked, specifically about future outsourcing plans -17% reported plans to shift more preventative maintenance to outside contractors, and an even greater 26% suggested shifting more predictive maintenance to outside contractors". - EASA
Preventative maintenance focuses on planned or scheduled maintenance on equipment that is fully functional to prevent future breakdowns. Predictive maintenance, or condition-based maintenance, leverages statistical processes to determine when maintenance tasks should be scheduled for the future. To increase the life of your equipment and perform at peak efficiency, it is essential to establish a maintenance process for your equipment.
